We stayed at the Chateaux Devaux located in Cap Estates on the north end of the island. This is a beautiful house with 4 or 5 bedrooms, pool, huge decks and the ocean is 200 ft below the house with great views to the USA and Europe. Martinique can be seen most days about 20 miles north of the house. This location is quickly becoming a favorite for ham radio operations. There is limited space for lowband antennas and there are just a couple of tree tall enough for inverted V's.
J6/W0MU made over 1600 contacts on CW, SSB and RTTY.
J6M made over 6800 contacts in the CQ WW DX CW Contest in the multi two category.
The pileups were more than we could have imagined. There is a great demand for CW and RTTY and other digital modes and lots of interest for 12m and 17m contacts.
Tot Henry J69MV was very helpful in obtaining out specail contest callsign. He is active on many bands with 6m being one of his favorites.
We loved the island the people are very friendly and helpful. It was quite rainy while we were there and the temperatures are very warm and humid. Farming of Banana's is now one of the biggest businesses on the island. The banana's are exported to the UK. Most fruits and vegatables can be grown on the Island and you can find many variety of spices such as saphron, allspice, curry and more. The Pitons located on the southern side of the island define Saint Lucia. They are quite beautiful rising out of the sea with a gorgeous beach at their base. The beaches tend to be smaller but the beach in Rodney bay stretches for what seems like miles.
We hope to return to the island in the near future.
